Michelle Barson, Mayor Pro Tempore

Village of Clemmons

I endorse my fellow Clemmons resident, mother, volunteer, and dedicated public servant Amara Hunter for District Attorney. Amara exhibits the traits I want in any elected official - honesty, integrity and passion. She has tirelessly spent her career making our world a better place and it’s time we put her to work in a position where she can accomplish these same goals on a larger scale and with a bigger impact.

Jim O’Neill doesn’t even want this job - he runs for everything (and loses) year after year. I want someone who wants the job, will commit themselves to the greater cause of justice, and who understands the unique dynamics of all Forsyth County residents.

Angela Carmon, Chief Legal Counsel (Retired)

City of Winston-Salem

As an attorney, who recently retired as chief legal counsel for the City of Winston-Salem, I am endorsing attorney Amara Hunter for Forsyth County District Attorney because she has the knowledge, capacity, and vision to be a positive change agent for the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office.

While in Detroit, Amara Hunter enforced the law as a Detroit police officer, and as a licensed attorney here in North Carolina, she has navigated the judicial system in Forsyth County as an assistant prosecutor and assistant public defender. Amara understands and respects the law from multiple perspectives, and she is committed to applying the law in a manner that is just and fair for all Forsyth County residents, while, at the same time, being committed to working with community partners to find viable solutions to the crime problem throughout Forsyth County.

Opolla Brown, Asst. Prosecutor

Wayne Co., MI Prosecutors’ Offices

I have known Amara Hunter for more than 20 years. We met at Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office where I personally witnessed her work with determination and brilliance beyond compare. She is more than qualified, committed, and prepared for the challenges of her role as the County District Attorney. Her commitment to upholding the highest standards in the practice of law is evident by her career as an assistant prosecutor, and a prior law enforcement officer for many years.

She has tried hundreds of cases, including homicide cases. She has been assigned cases for special prosecution including media cases. She is not only an outstanding attorney, but her commitment to her community is also truly inspiring. She is always available to share her knowledge and expertise with other attorneys.

Mrs. Hunter has the right temperament, worth ethic, character and integrity to meet the challenges of the role, and I cannot think of any colleague who is more qualified on all fronts than Mrs. Hunter.

Honorable Jack Vitale, Monroe, MI

Retired District Court Judge

She prepared every case thoroughly, treated victims and their families with respect, and carried herself in the courtroom with the confidence, skill, and judgment expected of a seasoned prosecutor. Her work ethic, legal ability, and deep understanding of public safety set her apart as an outstanding advocate for the community.

What impressed me most was her ability to balance toughness with humanity. Victims knew they had someone fighting for them, and the community could trust that Amara approached every case with honesty, preparation, and principle.

After 24 years on the bench, I know the qualities that matter in a prosecutor and in a leader. Amara Hunter possesses those qualities. She has the experience, character, and commitment necessary to serve any community with distinction, and I am proud to endorse her.

I proudly endorse Amara Hunter because she brings the kind of disciplined, real-world experience our justice system requires. Her experience as a police officer, prosecutor, and public defender allows her to understand the power and consequences of the system.

She is ready on day one to use the power responsibly. We need someone who can balance enforcement and accountability, protect our communities, and make decisions that hold up under scrutiny. Amara Hunter is that candidate.

Allison M. Arnold

Chief Asst. Prosecuting Attorney

Lenawee County Prosector’s Office

I am the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Lenawee County, Michigan, supervising a team of 25. Previously, I served 28 years as a Senior Trial Attorney in the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, where I worked closely with Amara Hunter.

Amara is among the finest prosecutors I’ve encountered in over 30 years. Her background as both a Detroit police officer and prosecutor gives her exceptional skill and resilience. She excelled in prosecuting complex sexual assault cases in Monroe, demonstrating compassion for victims, strong collaboration with law enforcement, and outstanding courtroom ability. We later shared a full Circuit Court caseload, handling everything from minor felonies to murder cases—she was consistently reliable, professional, and highly effective.

Amara Hunter has my highest endorsement and would be a tremendous asset as an elected prosecutor.

Kanika Brown, State Representative

Ms. Hunter reflects the true spirit of Lady justice in that she is balanced, compassionate, and committed to serving ‘We the People’.

Now is the time for justice. Now is the time for Amara Hunter.

Dan Besse, Forsyth County

Commissioner At-Large & Former Winston-Salem City Council Member

I’m highly impressed with Amara Hunter’s breadth and depth of law enforcement and legal experience, including police officer (and daughter of a police officer) on the tough streets of Detroit, assistant prosecutor and assistant district attorney, senior trial attorney, and assistant public defender.

She has seen the workings and shortcomings of our justice system and learned how to make that system work for our entire community. Combined with her passion for the fair, impartial, and timely administration of justice, Amara Hunter is ready to serve all the people of Forsyth County as our next District Attorney.

Melissa Nichols, Monroe, MI

Former Director for Victims Rights & Criminal Justice and System Administration

I am proud to endorse Amara Hunter because I witnessed firsthand the compassion, strength, and professionalism she brought to representing victims of crime especially children who were victims of sexual assault.

As a Senior Trial Attorney, Amara handled some of the most difficult and emotionally devastating cases with extraordinary care and dedication. She fought tirelessly for victims and their families while ensuring they were treated with dignity, respect, and compassion throughout the legal process. Children and vulnerable victims need someone who will not only advocate for them in the courtroom, but also make them feel heard and protected. Amara did exactly that.

Her preparation, courtroom skill, and unwavering commitment to justice made her an exceptional prosecutor and a trusted voice for victims. She understood that these cases were not just files on a desk they were real people whose lives had been forever changed.

Our community deserves a leader with experience, integrity, and a true heart for victims. Amara Hunter has demonstrated all of those qualities throughout her career, and I am honored to support her.
