Meet Amara Hunter
For more than 30 years, I have dedicated my career to public safety and justice, serving our communities from every side of the courtroom.
As a police officer, I gained experience protecting neighborhoods and supporting victims. I later served as an Assistant Prosecutor, working to hold offenders accountable and uphold the rule of law. Today, I serve as an Assistant Public Defender, ensuring that constitutional rights are protected and that justice is fair, balanced, and applied equally to all.
Effective prosecution requires integrity, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of the real-world impact our decisions have on victims, families, and the community.
As District Attorney, I will work tirelessly to keep Forsyth County safe while ensuring that justice is administered fairly, efficiently, and without political influence.
My commitment to service is rooted in family and community. Forsyth County is our home, and its values guide everything I do.
I am running to bring experience, fairness, and steady leadership to the District Attorney’s Office.
Together, we can build a justice system that protects our community, respects the law, and earns the public’s trust.
My Mission
My mission is to reform the system from the inside, bringing my experience in law enforcement and prosecution to create a smarter, more balanced approach. Not just being “tough on crime,” but being right on justice.
Who I Serve
Victims of crime — the people who need protection, justice, and a voice
Families — who want safe neighborhoods and fair outcomes
The community as a whole — not just one side of the courtroom
Young people — especially those at risk of being pulled into a system that can define their future, prevention programs matter
The underserved and over-policed — those who have historically experienced injustice, not just crime
Law-abiding citizens — who deserve safety and fairness at the same time
